Our Thinking
Good design makes people feel they belong.
Republic of Living has spent years working alongside architects, designers and hospitality operators, developing furniture for spaces where the details matter.
From Soho House and Ennismore to the University of Oxford and Hawksmoor, our role has always been about more than supplying furniture. It begins with listening, questioning the brief and understanding the relationship between architecture, material, form and the people who will ultimately use the space.
We believe the most successful interiors are those that make people feel instinctively comfortable.
Not through grand gestures or unnecessary decoration, but through the quieter qualities of good design.
The proportion of a table. The familiar warmth of timber. The relationship between a seat and its surroundings. The space to settle, to work, to eat or simply to spend time.
These are small considerations with a significant collective effect.
When people feel comfortable, they stay longer. When a space feels welcoming, they return. And when furniture is thoughtfully designed, it contributes as much to the commercial success of an interior as it does to its atmosphere.
R+B grew from the ambition to bring this thinking into a considered, repeatable furniture collection.
Drawing on the architectural language of early twentieth-century interiors, the collection explores the relationship between simplicity, proportion, material and craft.
Artisan veneer work brings individuality and depth. Carefully resolved forms provide a consistent design language. Intelligent construction and efficient production make the collection commercially relevant.
The result is furniture with character, without excess. Designed to complement the architecture rather than compete with it, and to make the people who use it feel entirely at home.
Considered in design. Honest in material. Intelligent in production.
R+B is furniture designed around people, and made to work for the spaces they inhabit.
